VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta State football team was picked to finish second in the Gulf South Conference this year, placing five on the preseason All-GSC list. A good way to start for the Blazers, and on Friday, the team took the field for the first time as fall camp got underway.

Head coach Kerwin Bell said a lot of the team stayed in Valdosta all summer preparing for the season, one they enter with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after an early postseason exit last fall.

Bell said Adam Robles will go into the season as the go to guy at quarterback, as Roland Rivers will miss the season with a shoulder injury. He said to expect competition everywhere else, and added, that's the way it should be.

"We want them to compete," he said Friday after practice. "Listen, we don't want no nice guys, we want guys to when you get beat to rise up and make sure it doesn't happen again. That competition, if it gets heated and we are really working against each other and competing against each other, we'll get better on both sides of the ball."

The Blazers kick off the regular season at Albany State on September the 2nd.
