VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State baseball team learned Sunday night that it will open the 2013 NCAA South Region Tournament against Delta State at the UT Baseball Field on the campus of the University of Tampa.

The Blazers and Statesmen will play at 3:00 p.m. in the second game of the South Region Tournament. The game will feature the sixth meeting between the two schools in the 21 days as the programs played the final regular season series at VSU's Billy Grant Field before facing off twice in the Gulf South Conference Tournament.

Valdosta State, which earned its NCAA Tournament bid by winning the Gulf South Conference championship, enters the 2013 postseason tournament as the No. 5 seed in the South while Delta State, an at-large bid honoree, is the No. 2 seed in the field. Sunshine State Conference champion Tampa will host the event as the No. 1 seed and will play No. 6 Stillman, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, No. 3 Florida Tech, an at-large recipient out of the SSC, will face No. 4 West Florida, another at-large team out of the GSC, at 7:00 p.m.

The 2013 NCAA postseason appearance marks the 19th time that Valdosta State has advanced to NCAA Tournament play, including the third time in six years under Head Coach Greg Guilliams. VSU enters the tournament with a record of 33-16 on the season.
