VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — After more than an hour and half, the Valdosta Board of Education tabled the action of a new hire for football coach.

The vote to table the hire, meaning to postpone the discussion, was almost unanimous. Warren Lee voted against tabling the hire.

Chris Beckham, who's been a talk radio host in Valdosta covering high school football for over two decades, said no one really knows for sure why a decision on a new coach wasn't made Thursday night, but, the waiting game has gone on too long.

The community is at a divide, and there needs to be a decision soon.

"You also get to a point where it's bad for the kids, it's bad for the morale of the community," said Beckham. "None of this is good. It's been two months going on, very divisive for the community, very divisive for the school system. Throw on top of it school being out, whoever is going to get there is going to be limited already. It's just a really bad situation that I thought would start healing tonight. Obviously didn't happen."

Beckham went on to talk about the legacy of Valdosta High School. It is the winningest program in the country with 24 State Championships. He said that makes all this even more strange.

The next board meeting is set for April 14. The minutes for that meeting aren't out yet, but you'd have to think the coaching hire will have a slot.
