VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta High School Wildcats are still looking for a new head football coach, close to three weeks after Rance Gillespie left to take a co-offensive coordinator position at Georgia Southern.

It's no secret the Wildcats have a rich football tradition, and Valdosta City Schools superintendent William Cason said getting someone in that understands that tradition is important, but there are other factors that have to be considered too.

"We want someone of high character, someone that can relate to our young people and build our young boys in to young men," he said on Friday. "We also want some that will encourage them to go on to post secondary options if they would like to. Again, a person that can build character and we look at being an expert in football as a plus."

The deadline to apply for the vacancy at Valdosta is Wednesday.
