Valdosta Back In The State Semifinals For First Time Since 2003

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Seven high school football teams were alive last week in the hunt for a State Championship. This week, just two teams remain, and the Valdosta Wildcats are one of those lucky two.

After defeating Stephenson Friday night, the Wildcats secured a spot in the State Semifinals for the first time since 2003. Their opponent? The Catamounts from Dalton High, and it's the Cats who have to travel after a coin toss last week.

Valdosta sits at 12-1, while Dalton is undefeated at 13-0, and while getting a win won't be easy, Valdosta knows they simply have to focus on the task at hand.

"I told them this morning, we can't win the State Championship this week, we've got to win this football game to get there," said head coach Alan Rodemaker. "I want to see them fight, play hard and play smart, and just fight harder for longer and let's just see what happens. We don't need to scoreboard watch, just play 48 minutes and let the chips fall where they may."

Valdosta and Dalton's match-up is slated for 7:30 Friday night.
