TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - There usually isn't a long line of football players that want to be the kicker, but for FAMU Rattler Chase Varnadore the decision was easy.
Chase is following in the footsteps of his older brother Corey.
"I try to do everything that he's done, but a little bit better." explains Chase. "You know, we have that little competition. Everyone seems to ask 'who do you think is better?' I always say he's better than me and he always says I'm better than him, but we'll never know"
It was another family member, his grandfather, that would have a huge impact on Varnadore's success.
"I never would have thought that my grandfather would be out there practicing with me. He was out there every Saturday and Sunday just religiously. I've got to thank him for that because that might have gotten me to where I am now just the practice at a young age. Then I think that kind of instilled in me the kind of work ethic that you have to put forth in order to be successful"
Those weekends were more than just practicing his craft, it was quality time with his grandfather. And now Chase is looking to repay all of that time spent by continuing to work hard
"He was always there working hard with me and I don't want to just waste all that time. He still supports me and tries to be at every game. He's definitely one of my highest supporters"
