CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Florida State's Terrance Shannon was carried off on a stretcher late in the Seminoles' game at Virginia on Saturday.

Shannon went down with 3:58 remaining after appearing to hit his head against the thigh or hip of Virginia's Evan Nolte during a scramble under the Florida State basket. He remained on the floor motionless for nearly 10 minutes as first trainers and then paramedics attended to him.

He eventually was loaded onto a stabilizing backboard and then onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

Seminoles trainer Stan Lunt said it appeared that Shannon had a "burner in the neck area, and he has some tingling and numbness in his extremities," prompting doctors to recommend he be taken to the hospital and checked out as a precaution. Lunt left shortly thereafter for the hospital.

UPDATE: According to Florida State, via the men's basketball twitter page, Shannon stayed in a Virginia hospital overnight with coach Corey Williams, but returned to Tallahassee Sunday in a neck brace, but "tests and scans came back good." His injury has been diagnosed as a neck sprain.
