(WTXL) — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said this week that the state is willing to host NFL teams looking for a place to play this fall, specifically naming the University of Florida as a host location.
Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin responded in a statement that the priority for UF is the well-being of Gator student-athletes, staff and fans.
Stricklin went on to say that he did reach out to Governor DeSantis, saying:
"UF and Gainesville have world class health care facilities, an iconic football stadium, a state-of-the-art basketball arena and a brand new baseball ballpark within two hours of cities with professional franchises. When it is safe to host college and pro sporting events in Florida, we will be prepared to do so."
