TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - At St. John Paul II Wednesday, two Panthers inked scholarships, and both are bound to the same school.

Girls standout basketball player Georgia Slay and boys hoops star Daly Newsome both signed with Ave Maria University in Southwest Florida, an NAIA school.

Slay sat out her season season after tearing her ACL, but says she'll be good to go by mid-summer. Newsome averaged twelve points and grabbed nearly eight rebounds a game this season for the Panthers.

"It hasn't hit me yet that I'm going to be a college athlete," laughed Newsome. "It feels unreal. It's always been a dream of mine, it's just an unreal experience right now. Today was a dream come true. I always dreamed about signing to play basketball. There was many early mornings in the gym and many late practices and the work has paid off."

Slay agreed. "It was very exciting that another Catholic school would be recruiting me," she said. "I love to just continue my faith, my education, the sport I love, and I love the school, it's a beautiful campus."

Slay said she wants to be a medical illustrator, while Newsome wants to study business.
