TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Chiles swim and dive program has been downright dominant. The ladies were a five time State Champion (2010-2014), with individual winners scattered throughout both the girls and the boys program. This year, there were no team titles, but two Class 3A individual winners are wearing gold loud and proud.
Swimmer Morgan Ayers captured the top spot in the 100 breaststroke, while Chase Lane won for one meter diving, and both are proud to keep Chiles on the map.
"Chiles is a great swim program, great athletic program, and academics program," said Lane, a junior. "It's a great school and a great place to be."
"Even though we didn't win this year, we got 7th overall with only five people which is pretty amazing," said Ayers, also a junior. "Our whole team is proud of each other and determined to get higher next year."
The future's looking pretty bright, and both agree, they wouldn't mind having that winning feeling again.
"I am motivated to be State Champion again next year," said Ayers, who also has two team gold medals. "With the girls I was racing, a lot of them are seniors, so I could definitely be on top again."
"Gold medal around your neck, shaking all your teammates hands, coaches hands, when you're stepping up on the podium, there's nothing like it," remembered Lane. "It gives you energy, gets up pumped up for next year and the years to come."
Those years to come would look good in gold.
