THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - When the Thomasville Bulldogs take the field for the first time in 2017, they'll be doing so on what head coach Zach Grage says is the first AstroTurf field for a small school in South Georgia.

The deadline? August 9th, which would give the Bulldogs two days of practice on the new turf before their preseason match-up with Pelham on August 11th.

The field was a big coast up front, but having artificial turf saves money in the long run, and now that it's coming together, everyone is excited to see the finished product.

"It's nice, it pops, it's not the old turf they used to have in those NFL domes, it's the nice sharp stuff," said Grage. "I think it's answering a lot of questions, and just to have these kids understand this isn't normal. When you have the community behind you and people are willing to make this happen, then now you need to pick your play up, you need to make sure you're paying them pack for all the support you're giving them on the front end."

Once the turf is laid, yardage numbers and endzone lettering will glued down. Both endzones will say "Bulldogs" in gold, while the traditional Thomasville "T" will be on the fifty yard line.
