THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - High School football teams are preparing for the second round of the playoffs in South Georgia. Thomas County central lost last week to Wayne County, ending their season.
On Tuesday night, after 24 years, they are making a coaching change, as Bill Shaver has been relieved of his duties as head football coach.
WTXL spoke with Shaver, who said his "whole heart and soul was with Jacket athletics." Shaver went on to say that the school told him they "wanted to move in a different direction." He said they asked him to resign on Monday, but he refused, saying he "doesn't coach his kids to quit."
Shaver said he isn't sure what his next step will be. Central won the Region Championship last season, but went 3-8 this year with a young that that was riddled with injuries.
