Texas Tech overcomes first half deficit for 70-56 win over FAMU

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Florida A&M Men’s Basketball team dropped their fourth straight as Texas Tec h handed the Rattlers, a 70-56 defeat, here Monday afternoon at the United Spirit Arena.
 
FAMU (4-9) was led by Jamie Adams as he scored a game high 22 points, followed by Reggie Lewis with 10, while both Markee Teal and Oneyekachukwu Odi finished with six rebounds apiece
 
TTU (7-4) was paced by both Trency Jackson and Josh Gray as they both finished with 10 points apiece, while Jordan Tolbert led the Red Raiders on the boards with 10.
 
A pair of free throws by D ‘Andre Bullard gave the Rattlers a 12-4 lead with 12:25 to go in the first.
 
TTU would cut the Rattlers’ lead to 12-11 on a pair of Dusty Hannahs free throws with 10:59 to in the half.
 
A three pointer by Lewis, followed by a three point play by Adams gave the Rattlers a 17-11 lead with 8:17 left in the first half.
 
The Red Raiders would take the lead on a Toddrick Gotcher put back, giving TTU a 20-19 lead, capping off a 10-2 run by the Red Raiders.
 
TTU would end the first half with a 17-5 run to take a 37-24 lead into the break as they finished the first half shooting 34.5 percent (10-of-29), while FAMU shot 31.0 percent (9-of-29).
 
The Red Raiders increased their lead to 45-28 to begin the second stanza on Jackson layup with 16:38 left in the game.
FAMU would cut TTU’s lead to 12 points on three different occasions as that would be the closes that the Rattlers would get as the Red Raiders would not relinquish the lead in the second half.
The Rattlers finished the game shooting 32.3 percent (21-of-65), while the Red Raiders shot 39.2 percent (20-of-51).  TTU held the rebounding advantage over FAMU 44-39.   
 
FAMU would conclude their three-game road swing on Wednesday, Jan 2 as they will travel to Miami, Fla., to take on Florida International at Century Park Arena in a 7 p.m. EST tip.
