PENSACOLA, Fla. (January 19, 2019) – Mustafa Lawrence scored 23 points to lead four players in double-figures for NJCAA No. 12/Region 8 No. 4 Tallahassee Community College in an 89-70 win at Region 8 No. 10 Pensacola State College.
Tallahassee improved to 18-3 overall and evened its Panhandle Conference record at 2-2 through one round of play.
Lawrence knocked down four of the Eagles' 14 three-pointers en route to tallying 23 points. He hit four of five three-point attempts and was 8-of-10 from the floor overall.
Jalen Dalcourt hit five threes and scored 19 points. Eric Boone finished with 15 and Richard Washington had 14.
The first ten minutes of the game was a back-and-forth affair featuring four ties and six lead changes. The host Pirates had a three-point lead but Tallahassee outscored them by 15 over the final 11:47 of the first half and led 40-28 at the break.
The Eagles blistered the nets in the second half, shooting 62.1 percent (18-of-29) and finished 34-of-67 (50.7 percent) overall. Tallahassee led by as many as 27 in the closing minutes.
Tallahassee returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Gulf Coast State College for an 8:30 p.m. tip.
