TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 27, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team dropped a 90-85 decision to Gulf Coast State College on Saturday evening.
Tallahassee is now 18-3 on the season and 3-3 in Panhandle Conference play. Gulf Coast State improved to 5-1 in league play and clinched the season series with Eagles, which essentially equals a three-game lead over Tallahassee in the standings.
With the game tied at 63 through three quarters, Gulf Coast State outscored Tallahassee, 27-22, in the final ten minutes to secure the victory.
Kiona Jeter led all players with 31 points for Gulf Coast State.
The Commodores opened up a 10-2 lead 3:30 into the game and eventually led 20-12 after one quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the host Eagles, who outscored the Commodores, 25-16. Mari Hill's three-pointer inside the final minute gave Tallahassee its first lead, 35-34, and Juliunn Redmond's basket with 23 seconds remaining sent the Eagles to the half with a 37-36 lead.
Gulf Coast State outscored Tallahassee 27-26 in the third quarter to even the score then opened the fourth on a 14-5 run over the first 3:30 to take control of the game.
Jamyra McChristine's basket with 2:18 left pulled the Eagles within two (83-81) but Jeter hit a pair of free throws on the Commodores' ensuring possession and the lead didn't dip below four the rest of the way.
Japonica James led Tallahassee with 27 points. Jas Hill added 15.
Tallahassee will have a week off before hosting Northwest Florida State College on February 3 at 5:30 p.m.
