TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Tallahassee Community College’s Alexandra Cook has been named the Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Cook, a freshman from Delta, BC, Canada, received NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday.
During the voting period of February 9-15, Cook was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances.
She picked up a pair of wins at Chipola College’s Florida Public Utilities Classic, defeating nationally-ranked Walters (Tenn.) State Community College and Hillsborough Community College on consecutive days.
Against NJCAA No. 16 Walters State on February 14, she tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out seven in the Eagles’ 4-0 win. The next day, she went the distance again, allowed four hits and struck out ten in a 9-1 victory over Hillsborough.
For the week, Cook totaled 14 innings of work, allowed only eight hits, one run (unearned) and one walk (0.64 WHIP) while striking out 17 batters.
Cook is Tallahassee’s fourth NJCAA Softball Player or Pitcher of the Week winner since the start of the 2014 season, joining Ashley Dobson (pitcher), Mariah Rivera (pitcher) and Te Reo Powhiri Matautia (player).
