ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (TCC Athletics) – Tallahassee Community College dropped a 76-69 decision at St. Petersburg College on Saturday afternoon in men’s basketball action.

The Eagles have lost four straight games and now sit at 7-6 on the season.

After falling behind by as many as 12 points in the first half, Tallahassee battled its way back and took a 60-59 lead on David Simmons’ three-pointer with 6:23 left in the game.

The lead was short-lived, however, as St. Petersburg scored eight unanswered points to regain control. The Titans never trailed again and ended the game on an overall 19-9 run to claim the victory and earn a split of the season series with the Eagles.

Trailing 40-32 at the half, Tallahassee shot a blistering 60.0 percent (12-of-20) from the field in the second half to get back into the game. The Eagles’ cause was hurt by 22 turnovers which St. Petersburg converted into 26 points.

Tallahassee outshot St. Petersburg from the field, including from long distance, but the Titans owned a distinct advantage at the charity stripe, knocking down 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) compared to just 15-of-25 (60.0 percent) for the Eagles.

Despite the loss, Tallahassee received a balanced scoring effort offensively, led by Simmons’ 18 points. Stavian Allen and Ryan Johnson scored 14 points each and Daishon Smith and Darius Alexander added 10 points apiece.

Allen also pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double.

Tallahassee will break for finals then resume play next Saturday at the annual Florida College’s Men’s Basketball Shootout. The Eagles will play a pair of games in Gainesville, Fla., beginning with a 3 p.m. tip against Polk State College on December 12.
