TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A series victory over Northwest Florida State College and a shutout of Gulf Coast State College helped propel Tallahassee Community College back into the FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday.
The Eagles (26-12), unranked the previous two weeks, re-entered the poll at No. 8, the second-highest ranking among Panhandle Conference schools. Conference leader Chipola College moved up two spots to No. 2.
Tallahassee won three of four games last week, including a 7-4, 10-inning victory over then-No. 8 Northwest Florida State on Friday to claim the three-game series with the Raiders. The next day, the Eagles blanked then-No. 6 Gulf Coast State, 6-0, in game one with the Commodores.
As a result, Northwest Florida State slipped to No. 10 in this week’s poll while Gulf Coast State fell out and received the most votes of the unranked teams.
St. Johns River State moved back to the top of the poll, followed by Chipola, Santa Fe College, Palm Beach State College, Polk State College, State College of Florida, Broward College, Tallahassee, College of Central Florida and Northwest Florida State.
In the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll, Tallahassee also made a climb, moving from No. 6 to No. 5 after a 2-2 week.
The Eagles swept doubleheader from Santa Fe College on March 24 then took two games on the chin at Chipola on Friday evening, the second coming in one-run fashion by the score of 3 to 2.
Tallahassee is 22-10 overall and in a three-way tie for third place in the PC standings with Northwest Florida State and Gulf Coast State. All three teams are 2-4, one game behind Pensacola State College (3-3).
Central Florida continues to lead the poll, followed by Indian River State College, Seminole State College, Chipola, Tallahassee, Miami Dade, State College of Florida, St. Johns River State, Pensacola State and Polk State.
