TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - The Florida State and Florida A&M men's basketball teams fell short of winning a title this season, but another hoops team from Tallahassee still has s hot to hoist a Championship trophy by summer's end.
The Blazin' Heat 13U AAU boys basketball team won the Florida State Championship, and now, they're headed to Nationals.
Head Coach Bowana Perry said her boys have developed into a Championship squad throughout the season, winning eight of the eleven tournaments they played in.
She said it's been great watching them grow and mature throughout the year, and not just on the court.
"The most rewarding part is seeing the kids become more confident in everything they do," she said. "Whether it's school, whether it's practice, whether it's games, the smiles on their faces, the hugs they give, being able to talk to them as a friend, as a mom, a mentor, it's all just love."
The Blazin' Heat have to make it through three rounds of play to win a National title. Competition begins July 17th.
