TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The 12U Tallahassee Tomahawks will follow the Florida State baseball team west to Omaha, and play in a tournament of their own. The Tomahawks start play next week in the 36-team field, and they're excited for the opportunity to play in the shadow of the College World Series.
Head coach David Kelly knows a thing or two about Seminole baseball. He played for the Noles in the late 90's and made a trip to Omaha himself.
To share the experience with the team? Priceless, and Kelly said he's excited to go out, win a tournament, and hopefully watch the Seminoles win one as well.
"For me, this is my first time back, and for these kids, this is something they can look forward to dream about," he said. "Obviously we are going looking forward to playing in our tournament, but having Florida State there, along with the other teams, it's going to be absolutely amazing for these boys."
"I'm pretty excited especially since a lot of the teams we all root for are going," said Tristan Williams, who plays several positions for the Tomahawks. "I think we're going to do great, especially if we play how we know how to play and play our game of baseball."
The Tomahawks will start pool play on Tuesday, where they'll play five games. From those games, they'll be seeded for a single elimination tournament on Friday to determine a winner.
