TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Both the Tallahassee men's and women's basketball teams hit the floor Tuesday night in season openers.
The Eagle women hit the court first, as they faced Daytona State, who's ranked 24th Nationally. The ladies jumped out to a 25-16 first quarter lead, and they never looked back. Sophomore Lawriell Wilson led the charge with 19 points, while freshman Japonica James pitched in 18 in the 82-64 win.
"It was a great start. I'm excited for our girls," said head coach Q Bedell. "It was an opportunity, the first game, the first night, to play a Nationally ranked opponent. You dominate like you dominate. It was exciting and fun to watch. I want to get back in the lab and go to work, but I'm very proud of them and we're going to enjoy this for at least another 12 hours."
The Eagle men took the floor an hour and a half late thanks to the referees not showing up, but the match-up with Fair Baptist Christian didn't disappoint. The Eagle men held on for a 69-59 win, led by Deion Bute and freshman guard Ronald Bell who recorded double doubles.
