TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - Most athletes remember their favorite youth Little League or Pop Warner coach, the one that made them fall in love with the game. One youth football coach from Tallahassee is motivating his team, the Tallahassee Longhorns, before he even blows the whistle.
"I tell them look at me," he said as he overlooked practice. "My mind tells me just keep living, keep having birthdays, just going to always push forward."
Jame Neal has coached youth football for two decades. He had both legs amputated in 2013 after a bacterial infection, but six months later, he was back on the field coaching.
"I told the kids I can get another leg, but I can't get another life, that's what I told the doctor," he said. "Being a first time amputee, it was very difficult to learn how to walk again, how to stand, how to sit up right. Life isn't fair, but you still have to push forward and finish strong."
Coach Neal is scheduled to get another prosthetic leg in a couple of weeks. The Longhorns are part of a non-profit Neal started, and to find out how you can help the team, click here.
