TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The 2017 high school football season kicks off in just a couple of weeks. The action is almost here, but before these teams go at each other's throats, the players and coaches that make up some of the best teams in the Big Bend gathered for fun and fellowship Friday night.
The message? Before they do battle on the gridiron, it's important they join together as one. On Friday, the City Church in Tallahassee hosted their 4th Annual Team Tallahassee event. Players and coaches from ten different schools fathered for food, fun, and a great message.
"I think opportunities like this are awesome," said Daryl Jones, former Miami Hurricane and NFL wideout, who was the event's guest speaker. "For these guys to have the opportunity to hear the love of Christ and God's purpose for them. Football is a great game to play, but life is much bigger than football. You can gain a lot from it, but I want them to see their lives on purpose, for purpose, and football is one of those things they have got to use for the rest of their lives."
Teams in Florida can practice for the first time on Monday, July 31st.
