TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 2, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College’s baseball team won a season-high sixth straight game on Thursday, knocking off Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College, 15-4, at Eagle Field.
Tallahassee is 13-10 overall while Grands Rapids was playing its first game of the 2017 season.
The visiting Raiders led 3-1 after 1.5 innings, but the Eagles evened the score in their half of the second.
After a scoreless third inning, Tallahassee scored 12 unanswered runs between the fourth and seventh innings.
Cole Vann’s fourth-inning single scored Tanner Thomas and Jordan Curtis to break the 3-all tie. He later scored on Deyvid Silva’s base hit.
In the fifth, it was Tucker Rayburn’s double that brought home the first run of the inning. He later scored on Bryce Plummer’s RBI-groundout.
Tallahassee scored three runs in the sixth without the benefit of a hit then put the game away with four runs in the seventh, capped by Jack Hartman’s first career homer, a two-run shot to left.
The game ended after 7.5 innings due to the mercy rule.
Malik Barrington (3-0) went five innings to notch his third win. He allowed only three hits and struck out five.
Every Tallahassee starter had at least one hit.
Jordan Curtis went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and three stolen bases and is now batting .421 (8-for-19) with 12 runs scored and 12 stolen bases over his last six games.
Vann was 1-for-5 and drove in two runs, bringing his total RBI to 16 in the last six games.
Tallahassee will continue its home stand at 4 p.m. Friday against East Georgia State College.
