TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The boys of fall have begun to take over for the boys of summer, as the travel baseball season is coming to a close. One group of baseball players from north Florida made sure their summer ended with a bang.
Right Way Baseball, based out of Tallahassee, took part in the 19U Metropolitan Junior Baseball League's National Championship in early August, and they didn't only win, they flat out dominated.
The guys outscored their opponents 40-13, going undefeated against teams from across the country. The squad is based from guys from Rickards High School, but they picked up players from Leon County and across the Big Bend to help make the team unstoppable.
"I knew we had a good group of kids, and I knew the competition in this tournament had always been pretty stiff," said coach Ewell Carter, who is also an assistant at Rickards. "We had consistent, steady pitching, timely hitting, and the guys just made the plays. For the guys here in Tallahassee and in the Big Bend area to go there and to represent this area that well and to come out with the win, is very impressive."
Even more impressive? Carter added the team had just eight practices before going to the tournament and winning.
