TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Local cycling groups and both the city and county commissions have come together for the creation of a bicycle route network in Tallahassee for those who prefer an alternative mode of transportation.
". We're hoping that we can make this in to a place that is a lot more bike friendly and see a lot more bikes on the road." tells local resident Kathy Loewen
The bike route system winds through over 490 miles of roadway in Leon County designed for a comfortable and most importantly safe route for cyclist.
Tallahassee-Leon County transportation planner Megan Doherty tells us "We're trying to get people to look at the network in a different way and identify parallel routes that are better for cycling but will just as easily help them reach their destination."
"I think we have a really solid workable collection of routes that make it easy for a lot of people to ride with comfort and confidence." added bicycle enthusiast Bill Edmonds
The next step is to find funding for signs to be placed along the bike routes.
