TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The grind of spring practice continues for high school football teams, and for the Leon Lions, they look to improve off last year's .500 record. The season ended in heartbreak for Leon, as it ended in a three way District play-off with Lincoln and Chiles, a play-off they came up short in.

Despite the disappointment, head coach Tim Cokely said he likes where this team is. They return their quarterback, almost their entire defense, and have a talented running back group to boot. The biggest thing they have to improve on, Cokely said, is learning how to finish.

"To lose the District Championship, playoff, whatever you want to say by one play, I think it kind of motivates you on how to finish in the off season," he said at practice on Wednesday. "Our program is on the rise. Participation is at an all time high, but we have to win at a high level. You can have a lot of guys out here that don't know how to win, you won't come out on the right side of those things. I think we've learned a lot just in the last year about how to finish, and we'll find out this fall if we've learned our lesson."

Leon will not play in a spring game, but will host a red and white game on May 19th at 6:00.
