MONTICELLO, Fla. (WTXL) - In the last decade, the Jefferson County football program has been through seven different head coaches. Blair Armstrong is the seventh, and the most recent, as he was hired last month.

What sets Armstrong apart is that being a Tiger runs deep in his blood. He played for Jefferson County, and coached from the sidelines, where he won one of Jefferson's six State Championships back in 1982.

Armstrong recently coached Hamilton County to a State Runner-up finish in 2014, so to say he's familiar with Big Bend football would be an accurate statement.

"That tradition has been going on since 1966, when the first one when Jack Youngblood played here. We've only been here about four weeks, so we're still learning the kids and we hope this summer will be a great summer to really help us," he said.

Armstrong added he's happy to be back in his hometown, coaching with his sons, and with the Tigers coming off a play-off appearance, and a good spring, he's ready to get them back to their winning ways.

"Like I said, there's tradition. The coach that was here before did a great job. We've got a lot of kids coming back, so I think we'll knock on the door this year."

Jefferson County takes on East Gadsden for their spring game on Friday. Kick-off is at 7:00 at East Gadsden High School.
