TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - For high schools in the state of Florida, spring football practice kicked off on Monday. There's a slew of new faces around Leon County, and at Chiles High School, Kevin Pettis is one of them.
Pettis was hired at Chiles back in February, and said he's excited about the chance to lead the Timberwolves come fall. The spring, he said, is a chance for the players to learn the ropes, and as a new coach, a chance for him to feel out his new squad.
Pettis added that wolves run in packs, and he's happy with the way this group has gotten after it in the off season.
"Just like every spring, it's the only chance you get to really focus on the process and kind of get a chance to reinvent yourself," he said. "The kids are working their fannies off. They're doing a great job for us. Anytime you work hard, good things are going to happen. We just have to figure out who we are and what we're about. Once we figure out our home base and who we are we're going to be alright."
Chiles will play at Fort Walton Beach on Friday, May 19th to wrap up spring ball. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 CT.
