MONTICELLO, Fl. (WTXL) - Spring football games and jamborees kick off this week for teams in South Georgia and North Florida. Aucilla Christian is not hosting a spring game this year, but practice has felt a little different this year, as entering the 2017 season, the Warriors are making the move from independent to State series competitive.
This year, the Florida High School Athletic Association eliminated Districts for smaller classifications, and that appeal brought Aucilla and many others back in.
The certainly have a lot more to play for this year, and although they graduated eight talented athletes, head coach Colby Roberts said he is confident in the talent he has coming back.
"These guys are battle tested, they've played Varsity seasons before," he said. "Depth is always an issue here, going into my seventh year here and it always has been. We work around that with strength and technique and fundamentals. That's what we're preaching to our guys and they seem to be buying in."
The Warriors will host a Blue and Gold scrimmage Friday night May the 12th.
