LAFAYETTE, Fl. (WTXL) - Spring football in the Big Bend is coming up on the final couple of weeks. The Lafayette Hornets were 9-2 a season ago and fell in the first round of the playoffs.
For these guys, football season never ended. They've been lifting, working out, and next week they get to hit someone other than themselves..
The Hornets graduated 18 seniors off last year's team, but a lot of skill players are back. Head Coach Joey Pearson said he is excited about their potential, and is just focused on getting better over the next two weeks.
"Number one thing is you're going to figure out who you can count on, who really wants to play," he said. "There's some guys in the middle of February and March they're all fired up about lifting weights. When you start practicing it's hot and sometimes they're not what you though they were going to be. First you have to figure out who's committed and who you can count on and then see who can play. We won eight games two years ago and nine last year, so we're looking to build off of that and hopefully win in the playoffs. Right now, with the unknowns we go, we're just one day at a time trying to figure out how to get better each day."
Lafayette hosts Interlachen for their Spring Game on May the 17th.
