VALDOSTA, Ga. - After receiving All-Region honors from the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) last week, Valdosta State forward Josh Sparks received the same recognition from the South Region coaches Monday as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
As with the Daktronics team announced by CoSIDA last week, Sparks was named to the NABC South Region's Second Team after averaging 13.5 pionts and 9.1 rebounds a game during the 2012-13 season. He recorded a Valdosta State single season record 100 blocked shots on the year and had 34 steals and 47 assists to go along with 392 points and 264 rebounds.
Sparks tallied seven double-doubles and one triple double on the season. He was particularly dominant during VSU's run to the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship game as he recorded double-doubles in all three of VSU's tournament games and earned All-Tournament honors after averaging 21.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.
The Savannah, Ga. native ended his Blazer career as the school record holder in blocked shots with 246 in his career, a number that placed him second in the GSC record books.
