MADISON, Fl. (WTXL) - Madison County High School isn't short on talent on any field of play. From football, to baseball and basketball, now Cowgirl softball is represented on a National stage.
"It's definitely a sense of pride, putting our little 1A school out there," laughed junior Abi Annett.
Annett is from that little 1A school, and this weekend, she was one of 42 softball players nationwide selected to compete for a spot on Team USA's Junior National team.
"Me and my dad were standing in Best Buy," she remembered. "We got a call, and I said, I guess we're staying for a week!"
To get there? Not easy. Annett practices six days a week, hitting, fielding, and strength training.
"I pretty much live on the field. It's safe to say softball is the love," she laughed. "When I first showed up, I didn't realize the importance of it until I realized that I would be staying and playing with a bunch of girls that were the best talent in 19 and under. Some of were freshman in college, some were still in college. It was incredible."
It was an incredible experience, and although Annett wasn't selected this go round, it was an experience that'll just make her better, in the long run.
"The level of competitiveness of the people from all over the country shows you how incredible the sport is," she said. "It's slowly coming in the fact I made it as far as I did. To be able to play with those kind of people with where we come from, is kind of crazy."
Not as crazy as the talent in Madison County.
