TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team is set to start its spring portion of the season as it welcomes both Troy and Florida A&M on Tuesday at the Indoor Tennis Facility. The 38th ranked Seminoles will play the Trojans at 12 p.m., before taking the court against the Rattlers at 4 p.m.
“We’re pretty fired up,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “We put in a lot of work in the fall and got great things out of it. We trained unbelievably hard in the offseason and we’re ready to get competing this spring. Also we’re starting off with two pretty good matches.”
These matches mark the season openers for all three teams. Florida State holds perfect records against Troy and Florida A&M. The Seminoles last defeated the Rattlers back in 2008, while the lone win against the Trojans took place in 2006.
The Seminoles finished the fall season with a singles record of 40-26 over five tournaments while fielding seven players. Florida State will be led this spring in the singles with four ranked players for the first time in school history. Those receiving recognition are sophomores No. 37 Danieka Borthwick and No. 48 Mia Vriens along with seniors No.73 Francesca Segarelli and No. 100 Amy Sargeant.
