TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Kirsten Crowley was recognized for her efforts on the soccer pitch this past weekend in leading the Seminoles to back-to-back shutout victories over a pair of nationally ranked intra-state rivals.
The Panama City Beach, Fla., native was named ACC co-Player of the Week, earned a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week and was honored as the Sunshine Soccer News Women’s Player of the Week from Soccer News Net.
Crowley played every minute of both matches this weekend as No. 3 Florida State defeated No. 8 Florida, 3-0, in Gainesville and then No. 17 UCF, 1-0, at home on Sunday afternoon. The redshirt freshman was part of the Seminole defensive line that helped post back-to-back shutouts while limiting the two nationally ranked teams to a combined six shots on goal over the weekend.
Against Florida, Crowley and the Seminoles shutout the Gators for the second year in a row and the third time in the last five meetings, while posting their largest margin of victory in the series in 21 all-time meetings. Florida was held to just eight shots including four on goal – two in each half.
On Sunday against UCF, Crowley found the right time to score her first collegiate goal as she put away a loose ball from close range to lift the Seminoles over the Knights with a golden goal in the 96th minute. Once again the Seminole defense was up for the call limiting UCF to just three shots over the final 50 minutes including only two shots on goal the entire match.
The recognition for Crowley is the first of her young career as it comes in just her second and third career starts in a Seminole uniform.
Crowley and the nationally ranked Seminole Soccer program are back in action this weekend with a pair of home matches against Oklahoma State (Friday, September 6) and Oklahoma (Sunday, September 8).
