WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTXL) - Make it five wins in a row to start 2014 for No. 8 Florida State volleyball.
The Noles outlasted American 3-2 (19-25, 25-12, 25-22, 10-25, 15-9) Sunday in Bender Arena. The result was FSU's third five-set victory in a row, including last night's win over Marquette.
"American and Marquette will both play for their conference championships," FSU head coach Chris Poole said. "This American team knocked out Duke in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament and they returned a lot of their players. We knew it was going to be tough."
Nicole Walch led the Seminoles with 18 kills, and Katie Horton was right behind Walch with 17.
Florida State will return to Tallahassee this weekend, hosting the Four Points by Sheraton Invitational. The Noles begin the event hosting Samford at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
