TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - "By the last game, I was with the rest of the students who had the 'Noles letters, cheering on the crowd. I had to O, so I was like, O, give me an O!"
Florida State Athletic Director Stan Wilcox was right in the thick of things as the Seminole softball team won their first ever NCAA National Championship.
On Friday, Wilcox and close to one thousand others came out to congratulate the softball team at the Championship celebration. Fans got a chance to interact with the players and take pictures with that trophy. The team admittedly still taking it all in.
The number of fans that showed up left this team in a little disbelief, but they're loving all the support.
"You show up for football games and there's 80,000 people and they're there for the game," laughed head coach Lonni Alameda. "When they actually come for you, it's just a little bit more, it's rewarding in a sense because you know that you did it right, the kids did it right. People fell in love with the game and I just think that part is the neatest part. We grew something here in Tallahassee and people are going to love it and they're going to continue to love it for years to come."
The Championship is the seventh title for women's athletics at Florida State.
