SAVANNAH, Ga. (April 14th) - The Florida A&M Baseball team dropped a 9-0 decision to Savannah State as the Tigers won the three-games series, here Sunday, afternoon at Tiger Baseball Field in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest.
FAMU (3-35, 3-15 MEAC) finished the contest with four hits as Justin Abney finished with two of them. SSU (21-15, 9-5) tallied a game high 10 hits as the Tigers had three players to finish with two hits each. Redford Davis (5-1) got the win for SSU as he pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing four this and striking out five in the 27 batters he faced, while Jason Wynn pitched one inning in relief, just allowing one walk in the three batters he faced.
Brandon Fleming (0-1) received the loss for the e Rattlers as he pitched seven inning, allowing nine hits, four earned runs and striking out six in the 34 batters he faced, while Jordan Montague pitched one inning in relief as he struck out one and walked one in the four batters he faced.
SSU draws first blood as they score two runs in the bottom of the first inning with Todd Hagen scoring on a Parker Nix single, followed a FAMU outfield error scoring Nix, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Hagen scored his second run of the game on a Kevin Herilhy sacrifice bunt, making the score 3-0 in favor of SSU.
SSU made the 7-0 as they plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as both Chris Arnold and Peter Poole scored on a Antonio Scott single to right center, making the score 9-0 for the finale.
FAMU will return to action on Tuesday, April 16th, as the Rattlers will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take Alabama State in a two-game series with a single game set for Tuesday and Wednesday, April 17th in a 6 p.m. CST start for both days.
