TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Two very different things could happen after Rickards and Godby took the field Thursday night at Gene Cox Stadium.
With a Rickards win, the Raiders would win their first District Championship in fifteen years. If Godby came out on top, the Cougars would force a three way play-off to decide who continues on to the postseason.
The match-up was a shoot-out in the first half, with the pair exchanging scores, entering halftime knotted at 14.
The Raiders exploded in the second half, scoring twenty unanswered points to win 34 to 14 and claim their first District Championship in fifteen years.
"It's the best thing to happen to Rickards High School in a long time," said head coach Quintin Lewis after the game. "We've been very good in basketball and other sports for a long time, so to finally win one in football, and again, we're trying to make our name in the city. We have to earn some respect from somebody in some point in time, and today, I think we did a good job of it."
With the District title, Rickards earns the right to host at least the first round of the Playoffs.
