TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Rickards Lady Raider basketball team's last trip to Lakeland for the State Final Four was in 2013, their last of four straight appearances in the State Finals. They left empty handed every time, but this year, the girls were ready to make history.
They'd have to get by a tough Ribault team first though, as the Lady Raiders hosted the Trojans Friday night in the Class 5A Region 1 Championship game. Ribault, a girls hoops dynasty. They're owners of ten State titles, the most in the state of Florida.
The visiting Trojans jumped out to an early lead, and entered halftime up 40-14 over Rickards, and never looked back, sealing up the 68-32 win, eliminating Rickards from the postseason.
