TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - They are doctors, lawyers, teachers, and stay at home moms. They are athletes from all walks of life, and bragging rights are on the line.
"The refs are actually keeping tally and people are actually getting hyped about you know, am I going to get the golden boot for this season?" laughed Robbie Sickler. "Now that I'm closing in on 40, I'm like hey, let's not slide tackle guys, let's leave my feet under me."
"It gets pretty competitive, but we do try to remember we have to go to work tomorrow!" added Lori Finn.
Competitive, but not too competitive, Warner soccer's adult league is bringing the glory days back to life.
"I swear to you, it probably took an entire season for me to feel like I was even comfortable touching the ball," said Sickler, who's been a part of the league for two seasons. "It was a little embarrassing at first. I'll be honest!"
"The coed, recreation and kind of the fun, sport side of it. Players play for an hour," said Warner Soccer's Andy Warner. "It's social in nature, it's good exercise, and these guys make it fun."
Making it fun for the superstars, for the novices, and those that now get to share moments on the pitch, with their kids.
"After their practice they come and watch me and they cheer me on after I've been cheering them on," said Finn. "We play in the backyard together, it's really brought us all a little bit closer and we just have so much fun together."
"When you start here with your kids at 3, 4, and 5, it's a family event," added Warner. "As the kids grow up, the parents are active, it's an active lifestyle world we live it. They look at soccer and say why don't we try to play it? It bonds the family unit."
Bonding, even if the adults feel the burn a little more than their kids the next day.
