Rattlers close fall camp with scrimmage

Posted

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida A&M wrapped up fall camp for 2014 with a scrimmage, Saturday morning at the Rattlers' practice fields.

Senior quarterback Damien Fleming led the first-team offense for most of the day, executing several scoring drives. On the opposite side of the ball, the FAMU defensive line showed flashes of strong play, particularly in short-yardage situations.

Due to NCAA imposed penalties as a result of poor Academic Progress Rate scores, Florida A&M football may only practice 16 hours a week instead of the usual 20 hours a week. Because of that penalty, the Rattlers will not practice on Mondays throughout the season, as they have in the past.

"Monday is a day we normally present the players with the game plan and discuss assignments for the coming week," said head coach Earl Holmes. "Now, we have to give the players that day off to address academics, so we'll have to go over game plans for the first time on Tuesdays."

The Rattlers open their 2014 regular season Saturday, August 30 on the road against Jackson State. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
