Quigley earns ACC weekly track honor for record-setting win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State sophomore Colleen Quigley has been named the ACC Women’s Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week following her victory at the 69th Pepsi Florida Relays.

Quigley shattered the 3,000-meter steeplechase record by more than 14 seconds in her wire-to-wire victory Friday night in Gainesville. The St. Louis native, who earned All-America honors as a freshman in the event last season, opened her 2013 outdoor season with a victory in 10:06.72. She easily topped the meet record of 10:21.03 set last season by Florida All-American Agata Strausa. Quigley’s time currently ranks No. 3 in the NCAA, No. 2 on the NCAA East Preliminary list and No. 1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference; it is also the fourth-fastest time in the United States this season.

She is the first Florida State track & field athlete – male or female – to be recognized during the outdoor season this year.

Florida State returns to action Friday and Saturday as host of the Seminole Invitational at Mike Long Track. It is the final tune-up for the ‘Noles before the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships, which are set for April 18-20 at NC State in Raleigh, N.C.

The Florida State men held on to the No. 6 spot in this week’s USTFCCCA national computer poll, and moved up one spot to No. 2 in the coaches South Region rankings. The FSU women climbed two spots in the South Region rankings this week to No. 3.
