TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - For fans of high school football, August can't get here soon enough. In Tallahassee, there's a big weekend planned as far as preseason match-ups go, as the inaugural Jonathan Ferrell Kickoff Classic looks to match-up some of the state's best football teams right here in Tallahassee.
On Wednesday, 4QuartersOnline and Willie Ferrell hosted a press conference to preview the Classic. Willie, spoke on behalf of the Foundation set up to honor the memory of his brother Jonathan, who was killed by police in 2013.
The Classic will feature three games over two days, and Ferrell said he's excited to honor his brother's memory with a sport they both enjoyed.
"We can handle situations one way or another," he said. "A lot of times you can have a grudge about certain things and not try to change the community or you can be a person that tries to change the community. I know me and my mother, with the Jonathan Ferrell Foundation, 4QuartersOnline, we have tried to do as much as possible to bond and get the young community to come together."
Suwannee and Gadsden County High Schools will play in the opening game Friday, August 18th. Godby will face Nature Coast in the first of a doubleheader Saturday, with Rickards and Miami Northwestern following.
