TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - High school football teams in the state of Florida have been working hard since May conditioning, lifting weights, and participating in seven on seven competition.
On Tuesday in Tallahassee, 4QuartersOnline did their part in gearing everyone up for the first day of practice on July 31st with their 8th Annual Media Day.
Close to twenty Big Bend teams took the podium, which aims to spotlight the youth and give attention to area times that may otherwise not get it.
"When I was growing up, we didn't have things like this," said Johnny Cofield of 4QuartersOnline. "I see kids all over the state getting opportunities, I thought we should bring it to Tallahassee. I saw it at other places, and I think teams and coaches have to cooperate with you, and we've been very fortunate to have everybody in the area to do that."
Every year, the event also serves as a platform for kids to announce their commitments. Tuesday didn't disappoint, as Rickards running back Destin Coates announced his plans to attend Purdue next year.
"When you leaving high school, like coming from playing a lot, you don't want to go to a school and like sit down and just redshirt," he said, noting that immediate playing time was a big factor in choosing the Boilermakers. "I'm not even looking at like redshirting, I want to go play right away, like contribute to the team and stuff like that, trying to give myself a good chance of making it to the NFL."
Preseason games kick off August 18th for high school football teams in Florida.
