TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In the team’s only weekend without a dual match this season, the Florida State volleyball team hosted a 10-team double-elimination tournament at home on Saturday afternoon (March 24).
Redshirt sophomore Sara Putt and junior Macy Jerger teamed up for the first time this season and won four of their five matches of the tournament. Despite falling to Brooke Kuhlman and Molly McBain in the first round of play, Putt/Jerger went undefeated through the finals match against Katie Horton and Hailey Luke.
The Seminoles saw new pairings make a showing in the tournament, with senior Vanessa Freire and freshman Ashley Robert advancing to the semifinals before falling to the eventual tournament champions.
“We always try to have fun but we really have been searching for the right lineup and finding the right pairs, so I think this will help solve a lot of questions for us,” Niles said.
The team returns to regular season action next weekend as it heads to Miami for FIU’s Surf & Turf Invitational. Florida State will take on UCLA, TCU, Tulane, FIU and Grand Canyon at Lummus Park in South Beach.
