Pelham Girls Hoops Receives Rings For State Championship

PELHAM, Ga. (WTXL) - Two months ago, the Pelham girls basketball team won a State Championship. It was their first since 1997, and on Wednesday, the ladies received their hardware for that win.

The Lady Hornets also revealed two banners during a ceremony at the school, one for their Region title, and another for that A State Championship.

Pelham finished 30-1 this year, and while they know the success they reached, receiving those rings made things a little more real.

"I'm just emotional because it's just reality. We are champions!" said head coach Antonia Tookes. "Everybody was tellling us that. We knew we were, but the ring just put the exclamation point on it."

"The moment they called my name and they put it on my finger, I was like'we did it,'" added Destiny Thomas, the Clemson signee who scored over 1300 points in her career as a Lady Hornet. "It's been feeling unreal but now that I have my ring it feels like we actually did it. We won!"
