LAS CRUCES, N.M. (WTXL) - Florida State softball exploded for 19 runs in 11 innings Saturday, knocking off UTEP 8-0 in five innings and St. Mary's 12-3 in six innings at the Hotel Encanto Invitational, hosted by New Mexico State.
The No. 12 Noles pushed their record to 3-1 on the season with the two wins.
"I was really happy with the way we came out swinging the bats today," said head coach Lonni Alameda. "We had some opportunities to see a few of our players in different situations. The pitchers threw very well today."
Junior Maddie O'Brien led FSU from the plate, collecting four hits, including two home runs, and seven RBIs in the two games. O'Brien has been the Seminoles' best hitter so far in 2014, batting .500 (7-for-14) with four home runs, five runs scored, and 11 RBIs.
Florida State will finish up the Hotel Encanto Invitational with a rematch against No. 9 Nebraska Sunday. The Huskers beat the Noles Friday, 4-3. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. ET.
