Nine pitchers were sent to the mound for Florida State, with each throwing one inning, and no pitcher allowed more than one hit. Newcomers Austin Pollock, C.J. Van Eyk, and Jonah Scolaro all pitched a hitless inning with two recorded strikeouts.
Raleigh continued his hot streak this fall when he sent a ball over the fence in right field to score Drew Mendoza and put the Seminoles up 2-0 over the Blue Jays.
With one out in the fifth inning, Herron homered to left field, bringing the Seminoles to a 3-0 lead.
The Florida State offense remained quiet until the eighth inning, when a pair of singles from Kyle Cavanaugh and Mike Salvatore opened the inning. An error, along with Nick Derr’s two-RBI single brought home three more runs for the Seminoles, capping off the 6-0 victory.
Monday’s game followed a pair of Garnet & Gold scrimmages last Thursday and Friday. Florida State’s season opener is scheduled for February 16, 2018, and the full schedule will be released next month.
