TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After moving up the games to avoid the incoming rain, No. 9 Florida State and USC Upstate managed to only play one game on Thursday afternoon before the weather made conditions unplayable on JoAnne Graf Field.
The Seminoles (20-5) defeated the Spartans (14-4) by a score of 2-0 in game one, which itself was delayed 57 minutes due to rain, and game two was canceled in the first inning.
“A crazy day due to the weather, but a good job for our kids to get the win,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “Working around changing schedules and delays can be difficult, but I think we adjusted well. We were hoping for two today, but ended up with just one against a quality program.”
Lacey Waldrop improved to 13-3 with the win and extended her streak to 38.1 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. She has thrown three straight shutouts and lowered her season ERA to 0.67.
The Seminoles will stay in Tallahassee for a three-game conference series against Notre Dame on March 14-15. FSU will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 4 p.m., with a single game on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
